We are seeing all kinds of articles and information about how incorporating gaming into our curriculum will allow students to be successful in Science, Technology, Math and collaboration and problem solving. For many this is definitely a move from the traditional teaching, but seeing kids engaged in World of Warcraft and Minecraft and there is an educational version as well called Minecraftedu show that they want to succeed and know that it takes lots of interaction, problem solving and creativity to move to the next level.
I love the video "The 21st Century Learner" from the MacArthur Foundation. He says that gamers, "want to be measured" and "if I ain't learning it ain't fun". Obviously these "gamers" are in our classrooms, and we need to make sure that they know the Learning Target and Objective of our lesson and what they need to learn to be successful. They are motivated by the need to move to the next level and in our curriculum that is the next concept that built upon the previous one.
I have gathered articles, resources, websites and Youtube videos about the incorporation of gaming into our curriculum. Check it out at Gaming Resources on Symbaloo. I will continue to add resources for this site.
How can you start to incorporate gaming into your curriculum? I would love to hear about your resources, ways your are incorporating and your successes or challenges in the classroom.
